10-12 November 2024

Industry Forum 2024

The ECA Casino Industry Forum & General Assembly II 2024 was held on November 11 and 12, 2024, in Nova Gorica, Slovenia, hosted by Hit Universe of Fun. The event, themed "Future-Forward: AI and Innovation in Casinos", focused on the latest technological advancements shaping the gaming industry. The forum explored how AI and Innovation were influencing future customer experience and expectations, while industry leaders shared their insights on what these developments would mean for the casino industry in Europe.

The event also marked the celebration of Hit Group's 40th anniversary of providing exceptional gaming and entertainment experiences. Participants enjoyed entertainment and leisure activities complemented by the region's finest culinary offerings.

The timing of the forum coincided with St. Martin's Day celebrations, a significant holiday in Slovenia's Primorska wine-growing region, where Nova Gorica is located. This added a unique local flavor to the social aspects of the event, as it marked the traditional period when must transforms into wine.

The gathering took place in Nova Gorica, which was preparing to become the first European cross-border Capital of Culture in 2025, providing an enchanting backdrop for industry leaders to come together, celebrate, and discuss the future of casino gaming.

Keynote speach by Philippe Gaggl, PwC (formerly PriceWaterhouseCoopers) (Virtual Live Lecture)

Impact of the EU Reporting Directive on CSR in the Land-Based Casino Sector
Philipp Gaggl, Director for ESG & Climate Change at PwC Consulting, brings extensive experience in the gaming industry. Prior to his PwC position, he worked on Environmental, Social & Governance (ESG) and Corporate Responsibility (CR) with NOVOMATIC. He will discuss the upcoming EU Reporting on the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD), which is set to significantly impact the land-based casino sector. Beginning in 2025, large companies with over 250 employees must disclose detailed social, environmental & governance impact information (about the business year 2024). By 2026, this requirement will extend also to smaller companies. The directive aims to create transparency, comparability and build trust among stakeholders, ensuring casinos not only meet legal standards but also contribute positively to the environment and society. Early preparation is crucial to meet these requirements smoothly, as collecting the necessary non-financial data and establishing a robust reporting system will take time.

Life on the Border - Nova Gorica & Gorizia
The cities of Nova Gorica and Gorizia lie at the transition between the Alps, the Mediterranean, the Karst and the Pannonian plain, where trading roads flow from the Roman times. In the last 100 years, politically four countries have changed here: Austria-Hungary, Italy, Yugoslavia and now Slovenia. On a short trip through the cities, we will reveal to you the unique story of life along the border.
Nova Gorica is the youngest town in Slovenia, a young Jugoslavian city that emerged after the Second World War, when the border was set and Gorizia was cut away from villages.
Tour of the Franciscan Monastery Kostanjevica with its Tombs of the Bourbons, the final resting place of the last French king and the only one buried outside France.
We can not miss the technological monument, the Solkans bridge with the largest stone arch in the world. This giant bends over the emerald Soča river and plays an important role in development of the cities.
Later we visit Italian side of the border – Gorizia, a 1000 years old urban city. We will walk the charming streets and up to the medieval castle for the view of the cities Nova Gorica and Gorizia, that are becoming one again after a long 100 years.
