The mountainous microstate of San Marino in Italy is home to only one land-based casino and its ECA Member is Giochi del Titano S.P.A.
The solitary casino property has seen its revenues grow by 18.9 percent since 2013, delivering gross gaming revenues (GGR) of €16.45m in 2015.
The Giochi del Titano S.P.A currently employs 135 full-time staff members having added three new staff to its workforce during the past two years.
Players made more frequent visits to San Marino’s casino in 2015 when 163,773 individual visits were recorded, compared with the 145,015 made in 2013, marking a 13 percent increase overall in the two year period.
However, in 2020, the government ordered a nationwide quarantine starting from 14 March, and lasting until 6 April.
Giochi del Titano’s business was also forced to shut again on December 24, 2020, originally until January 1, 2021. However, due to the continued spread of COVID-19 in the country, opening continued to be delayed several months after.
San Marino Gaming Law is the regulatory body responsible for the land-based casino.
Currently no online casino licences have been issued in San Marino.
San Mario’s legal system specifies a number of social responsibility measures for licensed casino premises. Access is permitted only after a valid ID has been shown and the player has been registered, and the minimum age for admission to the casino is 18
In accordance with AML regulations players who win or stake amounts more than €2.000 must be identified and registered.
A number of responsible gambling measures have been agreed between Giochi del Titano Spa and “Ente di Stato dei Giochi” including procedures of self-exclusion, the provision of medical and counselling support to players experiencing critical difficulties, and the provision of professional training to employees to help recognise problem gambling behaviour and be aware of responsible gaming practices.
The Giochi del Titano Spa, in association with the Ente di Stato dei Giochi, also identifies each player who purchases or redeems chips, and the general Management reserves the right to prohibit entrance to the gaming halls.
Gioco Responsabile provides a free anonymous service, available to everyone, run by professionals who provide advice and guidance to individuals who have psychological, social or legal problems caused by excess gaming.
The purpose of this service is to provide professional support and guidance by increasing the players’ awareness of the risk factors present in their gaming behaviour.
This service is available to all those experiencing difficulty with excessive gaming and their families and friends.
A free telephone counselling service is also available from 2pm to 6am daily.
