INITIATIVES

The ECA works continuously to face the challenges of a changing industry. Our initiatives aim to support our members in embracing the change in several areas – from gender diversity and inclusion to action against climate change, protection of vulnerable players and anti-corruption.

UN GLOBAL COMPACT

Since 2015 the European Casino Association (ECA) has been committed to the UN Global Compact corporate responsibility initiative and its principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.

The ECA supports the aims of the UN Global Compact and actively works towards them through a number of different initiatives with its members and stakeholders in line with the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and the ten principles of the UN Global Compact.

More information on the UN Global Compact can be found here https://www.unglobalcompact.org/.

Communication on Engagement

To demonstrate engagement with the UN Global Compact, participants must submit a Communication on Engagement. This discloses the specific activities that participants take in support of the UN Global Compact.

Diversity & Inclusion for Carreer Enhancement EUROPE

“The ECA supports and promotes diversity and inclusion regardless of gender, nationality, race, sexuality, disability and any other factor in the European land-based casino industry to inspire talented and ambitious employees”

BACKGROUND

The European Casino Association (ECA) launched the first Gender Diversity Initiative in 2017 to promote gender diversity in the land-based casino industry. This follows its ongoing support of the UN Global Compact, an initiative promoting sustainable business since 2015 and the UN Sustainable Development Goals. With the new initiative DICE Europe, ECA aims to promote not only gender inclusion, but also diversity in all forms.

The ECA views its commitment as crucial to provide long-term support to members, partners and stakeholders towards supporting and promoting inclusion in the land-based casino industry in Europe. It is clear that increased diversity is a priority for the ECA and its members and can deliver solutions to address some of the challenges and opportunities for the sector.

ACTIVITIES

In order to achieve the stated aim of promoting diversity in the land-based casino industry, ECA is active in the following areas:

• Raising awareness around the issue within the industry (ECA meetings, industry events and seminars, ECA membership of UN Global Compact)
• Provide a structured network for leading women in top management
• Support for mentorship, scholarship and educational programmes
• Promoting increased diversity at industry events and initiatives
• Organisation of dedicated seminars and workshops
• Disseminate best-practices (within and outside of industry)
• Scholarship to attend the Executive Development Program (sponsored by Agem and Clarion)

Alliance Against Illegal Gambling

The Alliance Against Illegal Gambling (AAIG) is an initiative launched in December 2020 by the ECA in partnership with the European Lotteries (EL) and the World Tote Association (WTA). The aim of this initiative is to support the right to enjoy and play in a nationally licenced, secure gambling environment and fight illegal gambling.

The Alliance represents over 150 licenced operators in the gambling and lottery sector in Europe, who together contribute more than 35 billion euros each year to good causes and state budgets. The Alliance issued an open letter to support the European Commission’s Digital Services Act, which includes new rules to tackle illegal online content, and to reiterate the importance of joining voices in the fight against illegal gambling.

Responsible Gambling Standard

The ECA strongly believes that the promotion of responsible gambling in land-based and online casinos serves the interests of both customers and the industry alike.

Only the implementation of effective and efficient responsible gambling measures will ensure the protection of vulnerable customers and create a positive perception among the general public which forms the basis for a prosperous and sustainable future for individual operators and the sector as a whole.

ECA members developed an association and industry-led approach to responsible gambling built on best practices and a European-wide exchange of information. This culminated in the joint development of a responsible gambling Framework that sets an industry standard for a practical approach to managing Responsible Gambling.
